Developing a Testbed

Testbed

The testbed creates a heterogeneous cloud platform on which to develop and test the P2302 Intercloud standard, as well as provide a converged cloud asset for use by the other four CCI tracks.

The initial idea for the CCI Testbed arose from the need for a platform upon which to develop and test the future IEEE P2302 Standard for Intercloud Interoperability cloud-to-cloud (Intercloud) protocols. But we realized that such a resource would also serve and be served by the other CCI tracks: education; conferences; and publications.

The testbed will combine university-hosted and industry-hosted clouds across the globe into a standards-based cloud-to-cloud (“Intercloud”) testbed. Some universities participating in the CCI Testbed will also receive industry support through in-kind donation of equipment and training.

The objective of the Testbed is to create a heterogeneous, well connected, and compute-rich cloud computing resource by leveraging assets that already exist at universities and research institutions. These institutions will contribute and underwrite Testbed access to their existing cloud computing resources as part of their existing educational and research missions, which will in turn be facilitated by their participation and use of the Testbed.
